Passion Close Out Regular Season With Shutout In Toledo, Gear Up For Playoffs

The Pittsburgh Passion (6-2) wrapped up the regular season Saturday night in Toledo against the Reign. Angela Baker found Krystal Cozzo for two touchdown passes to open the scoring early, 26 and 37 yards. Arielle Smith ran for two touchdowns, 15 and 13 yards, and Kia Foster ran one in from 15 yards out. And before the end of the 1st half, the Passion executed a hook and ladder as Baker complete a 12 yard pass to Rodriguez who tossed it back to Devon Conner who ran it 46 yards to give the Passion a 41-0 lead at the half.

After a scoreless 3rd Quarter, Baker found Conner for a 20 yard touchdown pass in the 4th Quarter and the Passion won by the final score of 47-0 for the 4th shutout of the season and 51st in team history.

Angela Baker finished the regular season with 1,688 passion yard and 23 touchdowns and also added 361 yards and 7 touchdowns on the ground. KIa Foster and Arielle Smith combined for 530 yards and 6 touchdowns on the season. Devon Conner, Krystal Cozzo and Ellie Mularski combined for 27 receptions, 1,291 yards and 22 touchdowns. Cozzo also became the 7th player in team history to surpass 1,000 receiving yards in her career.

Along with the 4 shutouts, the Passion defense forced 20 turnovers (10 fumbles and 10 interceptions) and recorded 9 Quarterback sacks during the regular season. Tenisha Spencer led the team with 6 interceptions, Hannah Daman had 2. The Passion Secondary of Spencer, Rebecca Ehrgood, Cozzo and Diamond Rodriguez did an excellent job of keeping the opponent’s passing attack grounded during the regular season.

Kaitlain Niedermeyer, Kim Zubovic, Daman, Randee Murray, Julie Ionta, Chance Willis, Monica Richards, Amanda Coles and Lizz Costanzo all contributed to the 9 Quarterback Sacks, stopped the opponents running attack and kept Quarterbacks under pressure all season as well.

Now we turn all of our attention to the playoffs and the Passion will host the 1st Round Playoff Game on June 15 at Joe P. DeMichela Stadium at 7 pm.

Tickets for Passion Playoff Games are $16 for adults, $12 for students/seniors/military and Children 5 and under are free.
