Passion Close Out Regular Season With Complete Team Effort In Victory Over Cleveland, Finish 7-1
The Passion closed out the regular season Saturday Night against the Cleveland Fusion and they opened up the scoring on 25 and 7 yard passes from Montgomery to Baker to take a 14-0 lead after the 1st Quarter of play. The Passion added touchdowns in the 2nd Quarter on a 24 yard pass from Montgomery to Baker, 22 yard pass from Montgomery to Cozzo and a 3 yard run by Montgomery. The Passion led 34-0 at the Half.
The Passion also opened up the scoring in the 2nd half on a 38 yard pass from Montgomery to Baker. And that was followed by touchdowns on a 38 yard run by Smith, a 26 yard Interception return by O’Neil and an 8 yard run by O’Neil. The Passion defeat Cleveland 61-0.
This was the Passion’s 47th career shutout and 116th victory in team history.
Offensive Leaders tonight were Angela Baker with 8 receptions, 157 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. Krystal Cozzo had 37 receiving yards and a touchdown. Ebony Montgomery threw for 210 yards passing and 5 touchdowns. Arielle Smith had 38 rushing yards and a touchdown.
The defense supplied tremendous pressure all night with it all beginning with the front seven of Zubovic, Neidermeyer, Cross, Edmonds, Ionta, Montgomery, Connor and Daman. The Secondary came up with Interceptions by O’Neil and Cozzo and a fumble recovery by Ehrgood.
On Special Teams, Kirsten Green made 8 PAT’s and Tia Montgomery blocked a punt late in the 4th Quarter.
The Passion finish the regular season with a 7-1 record and have earned a bye in the first round of the playoffs.We will host the Boston Renegades in the second round of the playoffs on June 30 at 6:30 pm at West Allegheny High School in Imperial.
