Passion Kickoff 2017 Season with 30-19 Win

On a cold spring night in Pittsburgh, the Passion opened their 15th season against the Columbus Comets. The scoring opened with Janice Masters finding Lisa Horton on a 17 yard Touchdown pass followed by a 2 point conversion from Masters to Angela Baker to go up 8-0. Columbus then forced a safety to make it 8-2. The score remained the same until Gabrielle O’Neil broke an 85 yard run, the longest in Passion history, to extend the Passion’s lead to 16-2. Comets answered with a field goal to end the half at 16-5.

With 1:34 remaining in the 3rd quarter, Krystal Cozzo returned an interception 52 yards for the touchdown. O’Neil punched in a 1 yard run with 5:50 to go in the 4th, Columbus punched back with a touchdown, making it 30-13, followed by another Columbus score to make it 30-19. The Passion won the game 30-19.

Offensive leaders tonight were Janice Masters who threw for 109 yards and 1 touchdown. Running Back Gabrielle O’Neil had 11 carries for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns. Lisa Horton and Angela Baker combined for 11 receptions, 114 yards and 1 touchdown.

Defensive standouts were Baker with 2 interceptions and Cozzo with 1, providing key turnovers in the game. Leading tacklers tonight were Kaitlain Niedermeyer, Tia Montgomery, Kim Zubovic, Alana Fields, and Chelsea Zahn.
