Passion (5-1) Come Down To Wire With Boston (5-0)

Saturday night’s game lived up to everything that it was expected to be as a matchup of Top 5 teams battling for playoff positioning. Boston jumped out to an early 13-0 lead in the first quarter. The Passion responded with two touchdowns of their own in the second quarter. The first was a 1-yard TD pass from Masters to Baden and the second was a 5-yard Hook and Ladder play from Masters to Horton to O’Neil. Boston added a touchdown just before that play to hold a 21-12 lead going into the half.

The Passion began the 2nd half with a 46 yard touchdown run by O’Neil and a 2 yard rush from Masters to put them ahead 28-21 after the third quarter. Boston scored early in the fourth quarter, but the Passion special teams got a piece of the extra point and held onto a 1 point lead. The score stayed like that until Boston hit a long 3rd down pass with a minute left in the game for a touchdown and they held on to win 33-28.

Janice Masters threw for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns. Gabrielle O’Neil had 66 rushing yards a touchdown. Tara Catone added 55 rushing yards on the ground as well. Angela Baker had 5 receptions for 62 yards and Laura Baden added a receiving touchdown.

On the defensive side, linebacker Hannah Daman led the way with 12 tackles and a pass deflection. Kim Beaver added 9 tackles. On the defensive line, Zubovic had 8 tackles and Niedermeyer had 6. Defensive Back Jana Meister added her 1st career interception.

The Passion are off next week and will be preparing to travel to Washington D.C. to take on the Divas on May 27. This matchup is one of the most recognizable rivalries in women’s football.
