PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Passion owner / co-head coach Teresa Conn has been selected for induction into the Minor Pro Football Hall of Fame. The 2008 induction ceremony will take place this Saturday, June 7th at the Heinz History Center. It is the 28th annual induction ceremony, the first dating back to 1981. Other Class of 2008 inductees include former West Virginia quarterback Major Harris of the Huntington, W. Va., Hawks, George Demko of the Wheeling Ironmen, William Keith of the Pittsburgh Colts, and former Pitt cornerback Joseph Herndon Jr.
There are currently over 600,000 people in the United States playing minor pro football. Highly competitive annual selections are made by the Hall of Fame nominating committee on the basis of excellence of play, excellence of team, commitment to service and positive change. Making further history, Conn is only the 3rd woman to ever be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Conn is a Townville native, graduate of Maplewood High School and graduate of Slippery Rock University. She was a teacher for 16 years before taking over ownership of the Passion in 2004 and transforming women's football for western Pennsylvania. She played five seasons with the Passion, before becoming co-head coach in 2008. She also founded the Passion For Life Foundation and Passion Youth Leadership Camps to utilize sport as a tool for teaching positive life lessons to young people.
The induction will take place at 11:30am, June 7th in the Great Hall of the Heinz History Center. All press and media are encouraged to attend. The Passion will play their last regular season home game that evening, June 7th, kickoff at 7pm.
