2017 Pittsburgh Passion Schedule

2017 Pittsburgh Passion Schedule

The Pittsburgh Passion will celebrate their 15th anniversary this season.  The team has been practicing  since January 3rd preparing for another run at a championship this season.

The season opener on April 1st will be at home against Columbus.  April will be an exciting time as the Passion have 4 home games that month, also welcoming Baltimore, Cleveland, and Philadelphia to Pittsburgh.  Our road trips this season will be to Detroit, Boston, Columbus and Washington D.C.

We look forward to seeing you at the games.

The Passion defeated the Atlanta Phoenix 35-24 in the first round of the playoffs.  The Pittsburgh-D.C rivalry is one of the best in Women’s football as they have played 14 times since 2003 (Regular Season and Playoffs).  Tickets will be available at the gate on Gameday.

Passion Defeat Atlanta 35-24 In 1st Round Of Playoffs

Passion defeat Atlanta 35-24 In 1st Round of Playoffs

The Passion opened up the scoring tonight on a 32 yard pass from Horton to Wojdowski.  Horton added two more touchdown passes to Baker, 29 and 7 yards, to take a 21-0 lead at Halftime.

Atlanta came out on fire in the 2nd with 3 unanswered touchdowns.  The Passion answered with a 5 yard pass from Baker to Wojdowski.  Horton added one more touchdown pass to Baker of 8 yards to close out the scoring.

Offensive leaders tonight were Quarterback Lisa Horton who threw for 272 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Wide Receiver Rachel Wojdowski had 9 receptions for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Angela Baker had 7 receptions for 124 yards and 3 touchdowns.  

Defensive leaders tonight were Defensive End Kim Zubovic who had 10 tackles and 1 forced fumble.  Linebacker Kim Dreischalick had 8 tackles and 1 fumble recovery.  Kaitlain Neidermeyer had 9 tackles, Jessica Nelko had 6 tackles and Ashley Strawn had 5 tackles and 1 interception.

On Special Teams, Kicker Amy Fallon was 5/5 on PAT’s and Punter Peyton Hieb pinned Atlanta deep in the territory with 2 punts.

The Passion extend their playoff home game winning streak to 11 games.  The Passion will travel to D.C to take on the Divas on June 25 in the 2nd Round of the playoffs.

Pittsburgh Passion Host Atlanta in First Round of Playoffs

With the regular season in the books,  the Passion look forward to getting back on the field in front of their home crowd in the 1st Round of the Playoffs, this Saturday June 11th.

Offensive Leaders against Chicago were Quarterback Lisa Horton with 287 yards and 3 passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown.  Wide Receiver Rachel Wojdowski had 98 yards for 2 touchdowns and Sharon Vasquez had 26 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Angela Baker added 142 receiving yards and a passing touchdown.

Defensive Leaders against Chicago were Linebackers Hannah Daman, Remy Olinzock, Kim Beaver and Defensive End Jessica Nelko.

The Passion will begin their playoff run this Saturday (June 11) against Atlanta Phoenix at West Allegheny High School with a 6 PM Kickoff time.

Passion Defeat Detroit 63-8 To Clinch The NFC Central North Division Title

Passion defeat Detroit 63-8 to Clinch the NFC Central North Division Title

The Passion opened up the scoring tonight on a 43 yard run by Catone.  Other 1st half touchdowns were a 40 yard by Catone, a 30 and 34 yard pass from Horton to Hieb, 41 yard punt return by Baker, 40 yard Interception return by Daman and a 33 yard pass from Horton to Baker. The Passion led at the Half 49-8.
Masters opened up the 2nd half scoring on an 8 yard run and Baden closed out the scoring on a 4 yard run.
 
Offensive leaders tonight were Quarterback Lisa Horton who had 140 yards passing for 3 touchdowns.  Running Back Tara Catone had 4 carries for 142 yards for 2 touchdowns.  Kia Foster had 6 carries for 87 yards and Laura Baden had  4 carries for 27 and a touchdown.  Wide Receiver Peyton Hieb had 2 receptions for 64 yards and 2 touchdowns.  
 
The Defensive line of Zubovic, Niedermeyer, Nelko and Zahn kept control of the line of scrimmage all night.  Defensive leaders tonight were Linebacker Hannah Daman who had 8 tackles (1 for loss) and an Interception returned for a touchdown.  Linebacker Jessica Nelko had 9 tackles (4 for loss) and 4 sacks.  Safety Kim Beaver had 4 tackles and 1 interception. Santana Ramsey had 5 tackles, Kim Zubovic had 9 tackles and Chelsea Zahn had 5 tackles.
 
On Special Teams, Amy Fallon was 9/9 on PAT’s and pinned Detroit deep on all of her kickoffs.  Angela Baker had 2 punt returns for 69 yards and a touchdown.
 
The Passion won the NFC Central North Division with this victory and it is their 6th Division title in team history.
 
After a bye week next weekend, the Passion travel to Chicago on June 4, 2016.

Passion (5-1) Winning Streak Snapped With Loss To Boston (5-1)

Passion (5-1) Winning Streak Snapped With Loss To Boston (5-1)

 On a rainy night on the South Side, the Passion jumped out to an early 12-2 lead on a 71 yard opening kickoff return by Smith and a 17 yard run by Catone. The Boston Renegades added 3 passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown to take a 30-12 lead into the locker room at Halftime.

 The Passion opened up the scoring in the 2nd half with a 27 yard run by Catone before Boston added another passing and rushing touchdown.  Horton had a 10 yard rushing touchdown and a 41 yard pass to Baker to cut into the lead before Boston added 1 more touchdown at the end of the game to close out the scoring.

 Offensive leaders tonight were Quarterback Lisa Horton who threw for 138 yards and 1 touchdown.  Running Back Tara Catone had 135 yards and 2 Touchdowns on the ground and she also added 14 yards receiving.  Wide Receivers Rachel Wojdowski and Angela Baker combined for 8 receptions for 113 yards and 1 touchdown.

 On the Defensive side of the ball, Linebacker Kim Beaver led the team with 11 tackles (1 for loss).  Defensive End Chelsea Zahn had 8 tackles (1 for loss), Linebacker Hannah Daman had 8 tackles (2 for loss).  Angela Baker had an interception and Sonya Osselborn had a fumble recovery.

 On Special Teams, Miashanti Smith returned the opening kickoff 71 yards for a touchdown.  Kim Beaver added a 25 yard punt return.

 The Passion will be back in action on the South Side next Saturday May 21 against the Detroit Dark Angels at 7 pm.

Pittsburgh Passion Defeat Keystone Assault 56-6 For 100th Victory In Team History

Pittsburgh Passion Defeat Keystone Assault 56-6 For 100th Victory In Team History

On a summer-like night at California University, the Passion (5-0) beat the Assault (1-4) 56-6 to extend their  winning streak to 27 straight games.  

The scoring began on a 31 yard pass from Lisa Horton to Rachel Wojdowski.  Other 1st half touchdowns were a 46 yard reception by Baker, 13 yard run by Osselborn, a 3 yard pass from Horton to Wojdowski, 9 yard run by Keys and an 8 yard run by Foster. The Passion led 42-6 at Halftime

Second half touchdowns were a 9 and 1 yard runs by Foster.

Offensive leaders tonight were Quarterback Lisa Horton who threw for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Running Back Kia Foster who ran for 72 yards and 3 touchdowns.  And Wide Receivers Angela Baker and Rachel Wojdowski combined for 4 receptions for 105 yards and 3 touchdowns.  The offensive line of Horak, Ferragonio, Sullivan, Stanek and Simeone turned in another great performance allowing no sacks.

The Defense tonight was led by Linebacker Casey Hatfield with 10 tackles, 2 for loss and a forced fumble.  Linebacker Miashawntia Smith had 12 tackles, 2 for loss and a fumble recovery.  Linebacker Johana Collins had 4 tackles and 1 interception.  Other contributers were Hannah Daman with 6 tackles, 1 for loss and 2 fumble recoveries, Kim Beaver with 8 tackles (2 for loss) and Jessica Nelko with 6 tackles (2 for loss).

On Special Teams, Amy Fallon 8/8 on PAT”s and pinned Keystone deep in their own territory on kickoffs.

The Passion’s next game will be May 14, 2016 against the Boston Renegades (4-1)  back on the South Side at Cupples Stadium.

Pittsburgh Passion Defeat Detroit 55-6 For 99th Victory In Team History

Pittsburgh Passion Defeat Detroit 55-6 For 99th Victory In Team History

 

On a rainy night, the Passion extended their winning streak to 26 and recorded the 99th victory in team history.  The Passion opened  the scoring through the air on a 29 yard pass from Horton to Baker.  Horton and Baker connected four more times for touchdowns in the 1st half of 36, 2, 53 and 17 yards.  Horton also threw 2 touchdown passes to Wojdowski of 19 and 15 yards.  The Passion led at the half 48-0.

In the 2nd half, the Passion added one more touchdown on a punt return by Kim Beaver.

Offensive Leaders tonight were Quarterback Lisa Horton who was 18/21 for 348 yards and 7 touchdowns,  which is a new career high for Horton.  Wide Receiver Angela Baker had 8 receptions for 177 yards and 5 touchdowns and both yards and touchdowns are career highs for Baker.  The offensive line of Sullivan, Horak, Ferragonio, Simeone and Dreiscalick turned in another outstanding performance with no sacks allowed.  

The Defense continued their strong performances this season and were led by Linebacker Miashawntia Smith with 9 tackles and 2 for loss.  Defensive End Kim Zubovic had 7 tackles and a fumble recovery.  Linebacker Jessica Nelko had 4 tackles, a pass deflection and a forced fumble.  Other contributors were Hannah Daman with 9 tackles, Kim Beaver with 5 tackles and Remy Olinzock with 6 tackles and 2 for loss.

On Special Teams, Kicker Amy Fallon made 5 PAT’s.  Jessica Melodia completed a 2-point conversion pass to Kim Zubovic.  And Kim Beaver returned a punt for a touchdown.

The Passion return home next Saturday May 7 as they welcome the Keystone Assault to Pittsburgh.  The game will be hosted at California University of Pennsylvania.  Kick off is at 7PM.

Pittsburgh Passion (3-0) defeat Cleveland Fusion 43-0 In Home Opener

Pittsburgh Passion (3-0) defeat Cleveland Fusion 43-0 In Home Opener

 

The Passion opened up their home schedule Saturday night, at Slippery Rock University, with a huge victory over Cleveland to extend their winning streak to 25.

Running Back Tara Catone, a Slippery Rock graduate,  started the scoring with a 1 yard run after a big special teams play.  Catone,  added another touchdown on the first play of the next drive with a 54 yard run.  After a 2-pt conversion from Jessica Melodia to Kim Zubovic, the Passion led 15-0 and that was the score heading into halftime.

Running Back Sonya “Bit” Osselborn  started the 2nd half with a 15 yard scoring run.  Other 2nd half touchdowns were a 38 yard pass from two other Slippery Rock graduates, quarterback Lisa Horton to Angela Baker,  a 12 yard pass from Horton to Melodia and a 1 yard run by Jancie Masters.

The offensive line, led by Kate Sullivan, Sam Simone, Shelby Horak, Lauren Ferrigonia, Kim Drieschalick and Kim Zubovic turned in a stellar performance tonight.  Offensive leaders were Horton who threw for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns. Catone ran for 194 yards on 20 carries and 2 touchdowns.  Catone is now over 2,000 yards rushing in 14 games. Osselborn had 36 yards and a touchdown and Masters had 17 yards and a touchdown on the ground.   Baker had 6 receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown.  Baker now has 102 receptions in her career and is the 3rd Passion player to have over 100.  Also, Melodia had 4 receptions for 43 yards and her 1st career receiving touchdown.  

The Defense recorded the 46th shutout in team history, the second of the season,  with a tremendous overall defensive performance.  The Dline leaders, Kristin Holzer, Chelsea Zahn, Kaitlain Niedermeyer, Jessica Nelko and Zubovic,  led the charge with incredible pressure up front the entire game!   Linebackers Hannah Daman, Miashantia Smith, Kim Beaver and Remy Olinzock combined for  22 tackles, 3 for loss. Defensive end  Nelko added a fumble recovery late in the 4th quarter.  Cornerback Ashley Strawn and free safety  Osselborn both pulled in key interceptions.  Olinzock and corner Kelli Clark combined for  3 pass deflections and a fumble recovery.  

Kicker Amy Fallon was 5/5 on extra points.

The Passion travel to Detroit next weekend (April 30).

Pittsburgh Passion Climb To 2-0 With 48-3 Victory Over Columbus

Pittsburgh Passion Climb To 2-0 With 48-3 Victory Over Columbus

The Pittsburgh Passion traveled to Columbus for a Week 2 matchup and opened the scoring on the first play of the game on a 60 yard touchdown run by Tara Catone.  Other first half touchdowns were  2 and 4 yard runs by Catone and a 35 yard pass from Horton to Baker.  The Passion held a 27-3 lead at the half.  

The Passion defense continued to show their power with an amazing 8 play red zone stand to keep the Comets out of the endzone.  Second half touchdowns were scored on a 55 yard run by Catone, a 54 yard run by Pitts and a 34 yard run by Lisa Horton.  The Passion extended their winning streak to 24.

Offensive leaders tonight were Quarterback Lisa Horton who threw for 133 yards and 1 touchdown and rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown.  Running Back Tara Catone had 11 carries for 190 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Running Back Qualin Pitts rushed for 69 yards and her first career touchdown.   Wide Receiver Angela Baker had 4 receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown. Rachel Wojodowski and Jess Melodia also had several impressive receptions and downfield blocks

Defensive Leaders tonight were Safety Kim Beaver who had 13 tackles.  Linebacker Hannah Daman had 12 tackles and an amazing special teams performance. Linebacker Remy Olinzock, Defensive End Kim Zubovic and Defensive Tackle Kaitlain Neidermeyer each had 11 tackles.  

Kicker Amy Fallon was 6/6 on Extra Points.

After a bye week next week, the Passion return to action on April 23 as they host Cleveland in their Home Opener at Slippery Rock University.

Pittsburgh Passion Travel Back To Ohio To Face Columbus This Saturday

Pittsburgh Passion Open Season With Victory In Snowy Toledo

At kickoff, it was sunny and windy, but then quickly turned into a Snow Bowl! The Passion opened up the 2016 season with a 28-0 victory over Thee Toledo Reign to extend their winning streak to 23 games.  The scoring started with a 12 yard touchdown run by Tara Catone.  Catone also added a 14 yard touchdown run.   The two other touchdowns in the 1st half were a 9 yard Janice Masters run and a 6-yard pass from Lisa Horton to Angela Baker.
 
Offensive leaders tonight were Running Back Tara Catone with 13 carries for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Catone set a Passion record with her 9th career 100 yard rushing game.  Fullback Janice Masters had 4 carries for 28 yards and a touchdown.  Wide Receiver Angela Baker had 4 receptions for 30 yards and a touchdown.
 

The defense recorded the 45th shutout in team history with a dominate performance.  Led by Linebacker Hannah Daman who had 8 tackles and DT,  Kaitlain Niedermeyer who had 7 tackles (3 for loss) and a fumble recovery (6th of her career).  Other contributors were Cornerback Remy Olinzock who had 5 tackles and her 1st career sack.  

On Special Teams, Kicker Amy Fallon was 4/4 on extra points and Rookie Punter Peyton Hieb pinned Toledo deep in their own territory.
 
The Passion will travel to Columbus next Saturday (April 9) to take on the Comets at 7 pm.

Pittsburgh Passion kickoff the 2016 Season this Saturday, April 2!

 

The back to back National Champions, Pittsburgh Passion, are preparing to kick off their 2016 season in Toledo at 7 pm this Saturday evening.

Don Paul Stadium, 1100 Miller St, Fremont, OH

This will be the 5th time in Passion history they will face the Toledo Reign. The Passion are 4-0 in previous matchups and are 25-6 overall against Ohio teams in team history.

In 2015, the Passion opened up their  season with a victory against Toledo.  Running Back Tara Catone became the first Passion player to score two touchdowns on her first two carries of her career and the Defense recorded the 42nd shutout in team history in the game last year also.

The Pittsburgh Passion are just weeks away from the start of the 2016 season and want to celebrate the beginning of the season with their fans.

Come out for a night of fun with good food and drinks.  There will be a 50/50 raffle and gift baskets for attendees to have a chance to win.  There will be a photo booth for fans to get their pictures taken for social media.

Fans will also have a chance to meet this year’s Passion team.  There will be a Questions/Answers session where you will have a chance to submit questions for players to answer about last season, the upcoming season and what they are looking forward to the most about getting back on the field for Week 1.

Another Pittsburgh Passion season is beginning as the reigning IWFL National Champions are in pre-season training at the Club Sport and Health in Monroeville.   After finishing last season with another undefeated record, for the second season in a row, the Passion players are very well aware of the work they have ahead of them.

The Passion have some talented veteran leaders returning, plus, they have several promising rookies that are eager to join the ranks.  The Passion have a loyal fan base and are looking forward to kicking off the 2016 season!
