PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Passion welcomed a local female youth football player to practice this past weekend on Saturday, February 22, 2014.  Sierra Stritzinger, a 12-year old, plays youth football for the East Allegheny Mighty Mites. Sierra started off the night by talking with a few of the Passion players about how they got their start playing football with the Passion and then took part in pre-practice warm-ups.

Sierra has been playing football for five years playing Running Back, Wide Receiver, Safety and Corner. As Sierra is one of the top performers on her team, the team made it the Championship game. Sierra also plays basketball and baseball for East Allegheny.

As a Running Back for her youth football team, Sierra spent a lot of her time hanging around and taking part in the running drills at practice.  She also got a quick throwing lesson from Passion Veteran, Kara Prentice.  Prentice taught her some different throwing and ball handling drills to help her improve her skills.  Prentice also talked to her about how skills and drills from other sports, such as basketball and baseball, can help make you a better football player.

Sierra ended her night with the Passion by meeting the rest of the team and leading a post-practice team cheer as well.

The Passion encourages all female football players in youth programs all over the Pittsburgh area. We will be inviting and recognizing all female football players from ages 7-18 at one of the home games during the 2014 season. The Pittsburgh Passion is a licensed team in the Independent Women’s Football League. The Passion season begins in April 2014. Steelers Alumnus Justin Hartwig brings his expertise to the Passion

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEhartwig1-2

Sunday, January 19, 2014

PITTSBURGH – Past Steelers offensive lineman, Justin Hartwig, had the opportunity to stop by the Pittsburgh Passion’s football practice last Friday night at the Club Sport & Health in Monroeville, PA. Passion players treated Hartwig to a night of hard-hitting tackle football; in return, he was very impressed.

Hartwig had met some of the players at a charity event this past October and was invited to attend an indoor practice at the start of the 2014 season.  “It was really great to be back in a football environment tonight, seeing the women having so much fun”, Hartwig explained.  He had a great connection with offensive lineman, Talisa Beachom, who wears jersey #62. “You always make a connection to someone who you see in your old numbers.”

Justin spent the majority of the night working with the offensive line and taught some technique points to the players. When asked to comment on the Passion and their commitment to football, Hartwig said, “It was so impressive learning about what goes into everything.  Some of these women even play with injuries and shows their willingness to sacrifice to do what they love.”  Hartwig continued to express his thoughts on encouraging more women to play professional football, “There is no better time to start than now.  Some women have been playing 11 years and some are just rookies starting out.  With a good attitude and willingness to learn, anybody can play.”

Justin Hartwig was also a part of the Steelers Super Bowl XLIII Championship Team and previously played for the Tennessee Titans and the Carolina Panthers. The Pittsburgh Passion is a licensed team in the Independent Women’s Football League. The Passion season begins in April 2014. Get your season passes for $50.00 and more information at www.pittsburghpassion.com.
