Teresa Conn Honored with WISE Woman of the Year Award
PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh Passion Owner, Teresa Conn, was honored with the WISE Inaugural “Women of the Year” award on November 13, 2013 at the Wyndham Grand in downtown Pittsburgh.
The WISE Women of the Year awards are presented at chapters around the country to women who are visible leaders and continue to be an influential voice for women in the industry; who have broken down barriers and helped create connections and new opportunities for other women while continuing to be a respected resource in the field; and who exemplify professional excellence and are role models for others.
“After looking at the long list of qualified women in sports in this region, we chose Teresa because she exhibits these qualities, yet does so in a very humble manner,” said Donna Bour, WISE Pittsburgh chapter president.
The event was accompanied by emcee Andrew Stockey, sports director of WTAE TV, and guest speaker Tara Green, who served as vice president and chief operating officer of the North Texas Super Bowl XLV Host Committee and is currently president of Klyde Warren Park, the five-acre deck park and free outdoor destination in Dallas.
Women in Sports & Events (WISE) is the leading voice and resource for professional women in the business of sports and events. Through ongoing meetings, special events and mentoring programs, WISE offers its members the opportunity to gain valuable insights and connections that can provide them a competitive advantage in their current position and as they advance in their careers. The Pittsburgh chapter was established in 2012.

Pittsburgh Passion Finish Season with Heads Held High
|PITTSBURGH – The Pittsburgh Passion end their season against the Boston Militia 63 -28 this past Saturday with a 7-3 record. However, a season of new players, a new stadium and the most popular fan base, give the Passion a lot more to celebrate in their 2013 season.
To continue the Passion’s record-breaking season, the Post-Season brought opportunity for more football records to be broken. The Passion offense was lead by Quarterback Lisa Horton who had 312 passing yards and 4 touchdown passes in the Post Season. Wide Receiver, Rachel Wojdwoski had 8 receptions, 184 receiving yards, one touchdown and a pick-six for a 34 yard touchdown against Cincinatti. Wide Receiver, Amanda Haeg had 59 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, 72 receiving yards and on receiving touchdown, making Haeg the record holder for most rushing touchdowns in Passion Playoff History. Wide Receiver Angela Baker had 5 receptions, 44 receiving yards in the post season and one rushing touchdown against Cincinatti.
Rookie, Fullback, Candice Snyder had 51 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown and Running Back, Ciara Chic had 100 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown in the post season.
As the Passion Defense made waves this season with 5 shutouts, there were many individuals who continued their Passion through the Post-Season. Free Safety, Alex McAtee had 15 tackles and 3 for loss in the Post Season. Line Backer, Tia Montgomery had 10 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and one sack. Defensive Back, Sharon Vasquez had nine tackles, along with Defensive Lineman, Kaitlin Neidermeyer with 7 tackles and Kim Zubovic with 7 tackles, one for loss. Defensive Lineman, Olivia Griswold had 5 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 2 fumbles recoveries, one of those being the first fumble recovery for a touchdown in Passion Playoff History. Griswold leads the team with most sacks and fumble recoveries in a post-season career for the Passion.
Special Teams brought a consistent game to the Post-Season with Passion Kicker, Amy Fallon 13 for 13 in PATs and Angela Baker with a 42-yard punt return for a touchdown in the first round playoff game against Cincinnati.
As we continue to “break barriers” in the advancement of Women’s Tackle Football, we want to sincerely thank all of the amazing fans for their continuous support throughout our 2013 season.
The Passion’s season is not over yet for some players. Sharon Vasquez is currently training with the USA Women’s Tackle Football Team to play in the 2013 IFAF World Championship in Vantaa, Finland. In 2010, Vasquez was named Defensive MVP as the team won against Canada in the championship round. Also, Passion Players Lisa Horton, Rachel Wojdowski, Sharon Vazquez, Amanda Haeg, Candice Snyder and Amy Fallon honoring 1st Team and Tia Montgomery, Kim Zubovic and Shelby Horak honoring 2nd Team, will all be representing Pittsburgh as they play in the 2013 Women’s Football Alliance All-American Game in San Diego, California on August 3rd, 2013.
Pittsburgh Passion Begin the Playoffs with a First Round Shut-Out
The Pittsburgh Passion shine brightly in a busy night of Pittsburgh Sports. The Passion pull off a 63 – 0 win against the Cincinnati Sizzle. The Passion performed the highest margin of victory in Passion playoff history.In the first series of the game Amanda Haeg lined up as Quarterback and pitched to Lisa Horton for a 73 yard touchdown-pass to Wide Receiver Rachel Wojdowski. After the ensuing kickoff, Wojdowski returned a 34 yard interception for a Passion touchdown to make it 14 – 0 in the first two minutes of the game. Still in the first quarter of the game, Tight End Lorraine Stanek scored her first career touchdown on an 11 yard reception. The Passion defense answered with another turnover with a forced fumble by Tia Montgomery and Kaitlin Neidermeyer with the recovery. The series continued with a 28 yard touchdown run by Passion Running back Ciara Chic contributing to a 28 – 0 score against Cincinnati. With four minutes left in the quarter, Horton throws a reverse handoff to Wide Reciever Angela Baker for a 12 yard touchdown run, followed by Wide Receiver Amanda Haeg 3 yard run for a Passion Touchdown to finish the score at 42 – 0 at the end of the first quarter.The Passion open the second quarter with an exciting, first-ever punt return for a touchdown in a post-season game for Pittsburgh by Angela Baker’s 42 yard return, making the score 49-0. Continuing, Passion Fullback Candice Snyder had one of two touchdowns, with her second touchdown of the night in the third quarter of the game closing out the score 63-0. Defensive Back, Melissa Gasdick contributed in the third quarter with an exciting fumble recovery.The Passion offense was lead by Quarterback Lisa Horton with 112 passing yards and passing 2 touchdowns. The Passion were at the top of their run game with Running back, Ciara Chic with 79 yards rushing and one touchdown with Fullback Candice Snyder who had two touchdowns and 41 yards rushing. Rookie, Running Back Sarah Niedermeyer had six carries for 30 yards rushing.With their first shut-out of the post-season, the defense was lead by Rookie, Defensive Tackle Monica Williams with five tackles and one sack against the Sizzle. Defensive Back, Melissa Gasdick had five tackles and one fumble recovery. Lineman, Kaitlin Niedermeyer had four tackles and one fumble recovery. Defensive Back, Autumn Kramer pitched in with one interception on defense.
Special teams also contributed greatly to the high scoring game. Rookie, Valarie Riley with four outstanding tackles on special teams. Passion Kicker, Amy Fallon tied a Passion record with the most PATs in a single post-season game with 9 for 9 Extra Points tonight against the Sizzle.

Pittsburgh Passion Season Recap 2013
In a season of breaking barriers, new players and plays to remember, the Pittsburgh Passion left an impressive imprint on sports history for 2013!The Pittsburgh Passion first made history by playing the first game ever at the new Highmark Stadium in Station Square. On April 6th, 2013, Rookie Fullback Candice Snyder made Highmark Stadium history making the very first touchdown and Passion Quarterback, Lisa Horton threw her 100th regular season touchdown of her career against the DC Divas in their opening game.The Passion’s defense had their first shut-out, of 4 total for the season, on April 20th against the Toledo Reign and their special teams added one blocked punt and several amazing kick returns to lead the Passion to victory.The Passion had their second shut-out in a row, on April 27th against the Columbus Comets, becoming the first sports team to win at Highmark Stadium. Wide Receiver, Rachel Wojdowksi started off her remarkable season breaking her 1000th career receiving yard mark early in the first quarter of that game and Passion Kicker, Amy Fallon was 7 for 7 on extra points. as Linebacker, Tia Montgomery had an interception for an 83 yard touchdown return and Passion Rookie, Linebacker, Amanda Duncan, had a 39 yard fumble recovery in for a Passion touchdown. The Passion defense finished with two fumble recoveries and three interceptions against the Comets.In the fourth game of the season, Lisa Horton threw her first 300 yard passion yard game of the season, along with Rachel Wojdowski’s four touchdowns against the Boston Militia. Wojdowski had a career-high of 8 receptions, tying a Passion record of 197 receiving yards in one game. Kicker Amy Fallon kept her consistency as she kicked 4 for 4 extra points keeping her count to 24 of 25 extra points at this point in the season.The Passion achieves a clean sweep in their second meeting against division opponents, the Columbus Comets. Passion safety, Alex McAtee had an interception returned for 35 yards and a pass deflection against Columbus. Wide Receivers Rachel Wojdowski and Angela Baker had one touchdown each and Fullback Candice Snyder with two touchdowns all contributing to the win.
As the Passion won their second-match up against the DC Divas, Rachel Wojdowksi had her seventh 100-yd receiving game for her Passion football career, along with three offensive touchdowns and one interception returned for a 37-yd touchdown. Lisa Horton had her second career 300-yd game and passing 4 TDs. The Passion defense was lead by Linebacker, Ebony Ivy with 14 tackles. Safety, Krystal Cozzo had one offensive touchdown and 3 pass deflections on defense in the game against the Divas.

The Passion clinched their sixth playoff berth this season in franchise history. The Passion tied the record for 4 shutouts in a regular season and was also undefeated in away games (4-0) this season.

In the linebacker line-up, rookie Linebacker, Amy Betterton finished in the top 5 with 40 tackles and had a 33-yard interception. Tia Montgomery had 45 tackles and Janice Masters had a career high with 38 tackles.

The Pittsburgh Passion Finish their Regular Season with another Shut-Out
The Passion wrap up their regular season with a win against the Detroit Dark Angels, for the defense’s fourth shut-out of the season 31-0; the Passion finish with a 6-2 record in the Women’s Football Alliance.Pittsburgh Passion Defensive Back, Sharon Vasquez, lead the defense with five tackles and an interception in the first quarter, returning the ball for a 51-yd touchdown. This ties the Passion record with three career interceptions returned for touchdowns. Vazquez will represent the USA Women’s Football Team in a few weeks as a Defensive Back in Finland for the Second Annual Women’s Football World Championships this June.The Passion defense had two crucial goal-line stances against Detroit, let by Amy Betterton with five tackles, Tia Montgomery and Alex McAtee with four tackles each. The Pittsburgh Passion pull off their second win against the Columbus Comets this season on their journey to the playoffs. The Passion won 35 – 14 against the Comets tonight.
Passion Quarterback, Lisa Horton, lead the offense again this week with 217 passing yards and one touchdown. Passion Wide Receivers, Rachel Wojdowski, had 101 receiving yards and 5 receptions with a touchdown, and Angela Baker with 5 receptions and 95 receiving yards also, with one touchdown against the Comets. Passion Fullback, Candice Snyder also had 2 touchdowns tonight.
The Passion defense had a great contribution from multiple players tonight against Columbus. Passion Safety, Alex McAtee had an interception in which she returned for 35 yards as well as 8 tackles and a pass deflection against Columbus.
