New faces to the organization: Brandon Rossi

April 26, 2019

The Pittsburgh Passion will have a new voice for the 2019 season. Brandon Rossi will be joining the organization on Saturday, April 27, as its new Public Address Announcer.

Rossi is excited to return to his roots and get started with the organization. As an alumni of West Allegheny, Rossi is ecstatic to be pursuing his dream job in his hometown.

“It’s funny that I would end up with the Passion as that is the best word I would use to describe how I feel about this opportunity,” said Rossi of the position. “I’m very passionate about broadcasting and I am ready and willing to help the Passion take their game to the next level.”

This is not the first time that Rossi has addressed the Passion crowd.

Rossi had the opportunity to call the game last season between the Passion and long time rival, the D.C. Divas. He described it as an incredible experience and was honored to be considered for the full-time position.

“I was shocked when she (Head coach Teresa Conn) called me,” said Rossi of the conversation. “It was so cool of her to think of me.”

However, looking at Rossi’s long list of broadcast credentials, it was no surprise that he was selected for the position.

As he prepares to graduate from Waynesburg University, Rossi can look back on his collegiate career having used every opportunity to his advantage. He has worked with Waynesburg’s radio and TV stations, as well as ESPN Pittsburgh 970 AM 106.3 FM, WJPA 95.3 FM 1450 AM, and the TribLive High School Sports Network (WCJY-FM).

Additionally, Rossi was also recently named one of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ “Future Voices of the Booth.” This is a program created and spearheaded by play-by-play broadcaster Steve Mears to seek out exemplary students pursuing a career in broadcasting.

Rossi said he was surprised that he was selected for the competitive program. He applied for the program expecting to just get his name out there and did not think much of it. Weeks later, he received a phone call just before he was supposed to call a WPIAL basketball game. Much to his surprise, Mears was waiting on the other end of the line, waiting to invite Rossi down to PPG Paints Arena to meet and speak with him.

“He (Steve Mears) has become like a mentor to me,” said Rossi of the connection. “He was actually one of the first people I told when I got this position. He was excited for me.”

The Passion are excited to welcome Rossi to the organization as well and look forward to a long and wonderful partnership. For more information about Rossi’s background and work, please visit his website www.brossi12.com.
